AAC in Educational Context

AAC finds a fertile ground for application and development in schools - whether for communication and expression, for supporting learning, for organization or for managing behavior. On Wednesday, October 25th, we spared some time to talk about AAC in the educational context.

From her extensive background as an educator and AAC consultant, Amy Starble organized a presentation in which she shared many strategies, practical tools, examples and videos.

In her presentation, she linked the application of AAC to educational activities so that students with complex communication needs could enjoy accomodations and participation. Check the slides in English or in Portuguese.

This activity was promoted in partnership with Instituto Autismo & Vida and ATEMPA. ATEMPA enthusiastically embraced this training opportunity and extended  the invitation to teachers, educators and professionals in general.

Amy Starble, M.S., works as the Augmentative Communication Consultant for the I-TEAM and Early Intervention I-TEAM,  two important projects of CDCI of  University of Vermont.

Such opportunity comes from the ADA Professional Fellowship Program on Inclusive Education, which allowed me [Renata Bonotto] to join activities with the Center on Disability and Community Inclusion (CDCI) of the University of Vermont in the first half of the year. Now in October, as part of my project implementation, we could bring fresh and relevant content to Brazil with Amy Starble's support.

I am grateful for the organizers of the ADA Professional Fellowship Program, AUCD (Association of University Centers on Disabilities) and ICI (Institute for Community Inclusion) of University of Massachusetts Boston, as well as the financial support of the State Department of United States of America.
